User Centered Design

Our Process

At Design Militia we approach all our projects with a user-centred design methodology, which involves designing a product that both meets your business objectives and creates a positive user experience for your clients. It’s not important how ‘cool’ and interesting your web identity is if the resulting system is confusing to the people that make your business work – your customers.

We run a flexible system that takes into account the scale and any financial or practical limitations that may be in effect. As a small team, your point of contact will always be someone who is actively working on your project, not just a company front man. This way you can be sure that Design Militia will always give you the most accurate estimates when it comes to time-scale and costs.

Our process starts with you on our first meeting, where we learn about how you and your business operate. This way we can shape our strategy to meet your business needs.

Depending on the scope of the project, we also carry out user research and perform software trials with your customers to make sure we create a product they find usable and attractive. When it comes to large, long-term projects we work on a process of persona creation, to help model our user research data into key points and represent our findings clearly to you. We always aim to create a web space that promotes ease-of-use and understanding over unnecessary features. Our websites are designed with your clients in mind and we create a tailored solution that appeals directly to your business consumers.

After the initial planning and research we move on to the design stage. Here we start at the highest level, producing wire-frames or sketches of how we envision the product working. We always work to design a whole experience, rather than simply slotting features together. When we have recieved feedback from you and your team we then start on the detail, where we produce detailed mock-ups of the product and depending on the scale, we also deliver usability studies on the design to identity any potential pitfalls that may have gone unnoticed.

Once the design has met your needs, your customers’ needs and we are happy that all web standards and accessibility criteria have been fulfilled, we then hand over the designs to the development team who build the product to plan. The completed project is then handed over to you, with any support packages and training required for you to get the most from your new web presence.
